Kateryna Berlova https://katerynaberlova.com/Lost-and-found Lost&amp;Found We are a newly formed collective of artists and curators brought together by a shared commitment to collaborative, socially engaged practices. Each of us brings prior experience in collective and/or participatory work. Together, we’re applying for studio space at Haus der Statistik to develop a long-term, process-based project that addresses themes of transit, displacement, memory, and transformation. Our collective practice blends social experimentation with identity work, archival research, and storytelling. We’re interested in the tension between visibility and invisibility—what is remembered, forgotten, or remains latent. Open archives, participatory formats, and humor are central to our work. We value hybrid approaches and intentional distortions, treating misunderstanding and failure as generative. The studio will become a platform for shared authorship, experimentation, and peer-building. We aim to amplify the voices of those often unheard: people forced to start over—due to displacement, burnout, social exclusion, or unstable environments. This includes refugees navigating fragile integration processes, teenagers from precarious family situations, and neurodiverse children marginalized by institutional structures. Most of us are Ukrainian and currently living through many of these challenges. This lived experience gives us not only insight, but urgency and legitimacy in our work. Being part of the Haus der Statistik community would help us connect with broader networks, support others in similar transitions, and ease our own integration—breaking the isolation we often experience. Working across video, drawing, and painting, she explores trauma, dreams, gender performativity, and violence through a critical and often collaborative lens. Her practice frequently questions how power and knowledge are distributed, drawing on the subconscious as a space of resistance. She studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv and completed postgraduate studies in the Expanded Cinema class at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig. Collective work plays a central role in her practice. As part of various curatorial groups, Scherbyna has organized How Do We Turn Salt Into Sugar? (Berlin, 2023), the Chytanka reading club (since 2020), the international feminist exhibition The Cave of the Golden Rose (Kyiv, 2019), and Saber, Deer and Spinning Wheel (Stanytsia Luhanska, 2018). In 2024, Nastia received a bachelor's degree in Cultural Studies from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In the beginning, Nastia's practice was connected to theatre. In Kyiv (2020–2022), their focus shifted to feminist arts, gender studies, queer and anarchist activism. After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Nastia moved to Berlin, Germany. Here, they began to re-discover their identity and became engaged in projects connected to disability, neurodivergence, and caring arts. They are working with children, trying to co-create welcoming spaces that embrace marginalized features—such as stimming—as a form of art, and practicing non-hierarchical and non-linear methodologies. Nastia has participated in and co-curated exhibitions and events, co-created zines, and co-organized various workshops. Among many mediums, Nastia works with textiles, poetry, and prints. Their practice is a place for sharing. In the future, Nastia would like to continue working with children and young people. As a Ukrainian, they are interested in building solidarities with other peoples affected by colonization and imperialism. As a disabled queer person, Nastia wants to make spaces more accessible and caring.
